I had a lovely time this week attending a three day Teaching Creative Writing course at The Manchester Writing School at Manchester Metropolitan University.
The course was made up of workshops on how to teach different aspects of writing – poetry, scriptwriting, prose and journalism. It also covered things such as assessing teaching practise and safeguarding, and finished with everyone planning a creative writing session and delivering a presentation on their work.
Although some of the ideas were aimed at those doing workshops for children, there were plenty of ideas suitable for all ages and also lots of ideas I could adapt or which might be good for intergenerational work (something I have been thinking about).
I particularly liked some of the poetry ideas, including using objects to tell a story and using wordsearch words to form a poem. I have come home with even more ideas I’m excited to try out!
For now, I’m looking forward to relaxing for a couple of days though, after a busy few weeks doing numerous courses! 🙂
